Main aim of the charity
The main objective of the charitable cause is to provide relief to children growing up in Burundi and Rwanda in refugee camps and help them with things that might be obsolete in Europe, but are a gift from heaven for them. Focus lies on primary needs - Clothing, education, but also on Medical care etc. Everything a child might need to grow up in dignity.
How the employee got involved and why
In 2012, my wife and I started getting involved in helping kids from poor families in Burundi by providing them financial support so that their kids can go to school. Education is one of the basic needs.
But later we said; helping people you know (family) is good but helping those ones who are not related to you has more meaning.
That's Real Help.
Because we have got a heart for others; we decided to help even people we didn't know and we were doing this by collecting clothes; shoes; toys and arranging financial support to those Kids.
We were working together with a catholic priest who was responsible for collecting what we've sent and distribute to the kids according to their needs.
We are having good lives in Europe and no worries about, food, clothing and other basic needs. We are able to help and make a difference. It gives a lot of energy and happiness to do something for people in need. By caring we help others.
And improve peoples lives.
In our opinion this is the ultimate that one can do for another.
We therefore also feel strongly with the DHL strategy and are thankful for the GO HELP, GO TEACH, DHL CARES, DHL got heart and other projects of DHL (like for instance the DRT). It shows that DHL cares as well and really wants to Improve the life of people (that needs some help)
What work does the employee do for charity?
We have started a charity - Named Kid's Friends - Kura Neza. Kura means Grow up - Neza means: in good health / good circumstances.

This charity focusses in collecting used and new clothes; shoes; toys; school materials from families; colleagues and friends. There after we sort them; clean them and pack them adequately in order to fly it to Africa with Air cargo. We try to involve as much people as possible and activate them. Everybody can do something (even a small thing can make a big difference / impact on others)
DHL Brussels Hub offers each employee 3 FOC (box) shipments per year. Some colleagues are also helping out by using their FOC shipment opportunities and donate the space to us.
What impact would winning have on the charity?
Our challenge is bigger than we thought in the beginning. So there is a big gap that needs to get filled and by winning this event will make a BIG DIFFERENCE for those Kids in need cause we will be able to support more kids by providing them with school materials; basic Medicare; school fees. It would improve the lives of poor kids living in Burundi and Rwanda in refugee camps (Mahama camp more specifically)
What impact would winning have on the employee?
It will be a joy and dream come true for the whole team who is working hard to get support for these Kids. It would make me even more proud to work for DHL. DHL would have exceeded my expectations in that case.
