Main aim of the charity
The mission of the Primate Rescue Center is to alleviate the suffering of primates wherever it occurs by:
-Providing sanctuary or referral to appropriate facilities
-Working to end the trade in primates both in the United States and abroad
-Educating the public to the plight of primates caught in the breeder/dealer cycle
-Assisting researchers and zoo personnel in finding appropriate placement for surplus primates
-Encouraging compliance with applicable local, state, and federal laws and animal welfare statutes
How the employee got involved and why
I follow many animal sanctuaries, namely those involving primates such as chimpanzees- I have been fascinated by these beautiful animals since I was a child. I first learned about the Primate Rescue Center about a year ago, and was surprised and happy to know that there was a sanctuary devoted to caring for them right here in Kentucky.
What work does the employee do for charity?
Previously, I have donated to the PRC; but last weekend I was given the opportunity to come and meet the staff and the animals, and to create puppet treat bags for enrichment. It was an amazing experience, and I look forward to volunteering and helping out more in the future!
What impact would winning have on the charity?
Chimpanzees are so incredibly genetically close to humans, and for decades were subjected to all kinds of horrible testing and treatment which we have no doubt learned and benefitted from- not to mention others who have been cruelly used as attractions, or as pets. They are an endangered species, and the majority of their endangerment is due to we humans. I feel that we owe it to them to take care of and provide for them. Winning would definitely help attain the goal of taking care of and providing for them, allowing them to live the lives that they deserve.
What impact would winning have on the employee?
Winning would definitely be an incredible way to give back to these amazing animals, and I would love to raise awareness for primates and hopefully inspire others to become involved with protecting and caring for them!
