Main aim of the charity
Providing education and training for unemployed to get a job or develop a business plan to start as entrepreneur. By this means people are able to feel useful valuable and worth and have a worthy living. They can even employ other people too, make formal contributions in the country, be an example in their communities and families, avoid ending up in illegal businesses, etc.
How the employee got involved and why
I got involved 10 years ago when Argentina had a profund economic crisis and many people unemployed didnt have the skills or support to find a worth job, this unfortunatelly continues to be the country situation with 3 out of 10 people in poverty and 20% of young people unemployed. I believe to change a country you need productivity and work, especially to be sustainable in the future. And people give more of themselves if you trust and enable them to do so, so I believe in sharing knowledge, skills and opportunities and these are the values that I found in PROEM organization.
What work does the employee do for charity?
This program focuses mainly in 2 beneficiaries: people that will start a new business (can be selling cakes, making clothes, offering services such as carpenter or masseuse, etc) or people appliying for a job.
As a volunteer I facilitate trainings on different topics such as how to apply for a job, competencies development, personal branding, coaching, emotional ingeligence, business plans, sales, etc.
What impact would winning have on the charity?
The money the Organziation receives is used for training tools such as wood for carpenter training, and to provide credit for entrepreneurs that need to start up the business (kitchen for cooking, paint, motorciclye to make delivery, etc). In a long term those investments could end up on growing businesses that hire more unmeployed people and that can even use DHL to export their products to other countries.
What impact would winning have on the employee?
Personally it makes me feel even more engaged and valued as an individual and as an employee, I already love this program because it recognizes your own beliefs and values and allows you to share them with your colleagues. After last year's program we even started networking with colleagues around the network sharing experiences and ideas on the different projects. Its great to feel the support of the company and the autonomy of choosing your own social responsibility journey besides from the ones we do together as DHL.
