Though Banalata works in Bonn, her heart remains with her roots in India, where her family run a school for underprivileged children. As well as teaching, the school ensures the children receive healthy meals, and provides free healthcare checkups for those in the community. Banalata spends up to two hours a day on the phone talking to the team back in India, ensuring everything is running smoothly. She also goes back to visit in person each year.
