Main aim of the charity
It prepares the place of which the orphans will be living in. And making it possible to prepare the children to be re-integrated into their biological families or to be adopted.
How the employee got involved and why
I am the founder of this charity. It was always on my heart to try to help children in difficult social circumstances. When circumstances allowed, I started the work by buying a property in need of deep refurbishment, in order to render it appropriate for housing children that are under the authority of the Romanian social services.
What work does the employee do for charity?
To date I have been managing the refurbishment work to the standards of current government requirements. I have used my holidays to personally be on site and contribute with hands-on work where needed.
To help with the funding for this project, our charity also has a second hand charity shop, which I have been managing and also working in.
What impact would winning have on the charity?
Winning would provide additional funding that would bring the end of the refurbishment work and approval formalities nearer. Children could thus enjoy the security and comfort of the home sooner. This would also impact the morale of the small team of volunteers and paid staff.
What impact would winning have on the employee?
It would make me extremely grateful for the support received and I would share it with my friends and work colleagues. It would be a witness to the generosity of DHL and its involvement with good causes helping those whom life has been less generous with. I would be able to close this preliminary chapter with all its duties and burdens and hand over the day-to-day running to professional staff on the ground. I would then only be involved in a leading and supervisory role, to make sure things are running smoothly. Of course I would be stepping in when exceptional situations require.
