How the employee got involved and why
Hi!
I decided to create a positive group on social media, for my local community.
I see so much positivity, so many great people in the community, huge amounts of charity work and community champions, that I wanted to show people- to bring a fantastic and positive viewpoint to inspire and awaken others with.
I wanted to fill my days with great things, meeting people, finding out about the community around me, going places that seem far away- but that are actually on my doorstep, and I wanted to share that with my community.
My group called ‘Colchester Community Group’ now has over 10,000 members.
I have helped 70 people through a Mental Health First Aid Course, 20 people through a St John Ambulance First Aid course, I run a monthly ‘men’s-meet’ to help guys talk about things- helping with mental health, I have had funding from the local council of £500 which I used to buy litterpickers, hi vis vests and gloves, I then delivered these across my community to those members who wanted a set.
My group has relocated lost property, people, helps people find information, and so much more.
What work does the employee do for charity?
I go around meeting and promoting lots of local charities, including the local ‘Munch Club’ that is a wonderful programme ensuring children do not go hungry during school holidays, also the Essex Uniform Exchange, who run a uniform swap-shop, helping those who may not be able to afford it- get school uniforms. And many more charitable schemes.
I help them get much more community following, and greater presence- by using my group to do features.
