GAT Foundation

Main aim of the charity

The GAT Foundation (Give A Textbook Inc.) are a Melbourne based charity that actively distributes books throughout the Philippines. Our three main objectives are: • We promote sustainability and environmental awareness through re-homing books within communities in Australia and the Philippines • We donate literacy material to schools and community groups in the Philippines to empower individuals and help to relieve poverty through education • We partner with corporate organisations to assist with Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) projects. To support their goals for social, environmental and educational outreach

How the employee got involved and why

I always had a passion for volunteering and a close friend of mine founded the GAT Foundation. At one their initial fundraising events I volunteered and ever since then, I have actively been involved and eventually became a board member.

What work does the employee do for charity?

As a board member, I assist in the direction and growth of the charity by promoting sustainability and environmental awareness in Australia. I assist with strengthening relationships with Government bodies and corporate organisations in the Philippines and Australia to achieve mutual goals for social, environmental and educational outreach.

What impact would winning have on the charity?

Winning would assist us in donating more books to schools and community groups in the Philippines. We have identified needy recipients through the partnerships with the Department of Education (Philippines) and local NGO’s.

What impact would winning have on the employee?

For me, this is a great opportunity to give back to the wider community in the Philippines. In Australia, we are blessed to have great schools and opportunities to excel, on the other hand, some communities in the Philippines struggle for funding and basic aid. Through the foundation, it has provided me with an avenue to create a positive change within these communities.
