RIA - Rehabilitation Institute for Autism

Main aim of the charity

Our main purpose is to be able to help and support the children with special needs who have been diagnosed with autism and allow them to live just like other ordinary kids.

How the employee got involved and why

RIA is a privately funded school for Autistic children of all nationalities in Bahrain that relies on generous donations and support from the local community and we have been helping them for the past years now. We got involved through DHL Got Heart program and it encouraged and inspired us to give something back to community by helping one of the charities like RIA. The school had moved to a new location and we offered our support to take on a small project for the school.

What work does the employee do for charity?

The project that we took on was ensure that the area around the swimming pool was safe for the children to use, to remove the old surrounding wall and replace with an activity wall where the children can draw, paint and do any other art work at their own will and in a safe area at the school. We even posted DHL Got Heart logo on the painted wall just to remind them, the kids, that they are well-loved and they are very special to our hearts !

What impact would winning have on the charity?

It will surely make a big difference to the lives of these special kids . The prized money will help them rehabilitate the school, build more educational programs, hire professional speech and occupational therapist and provide especial tools & therapy to develop the children sensors skills so they can be able to communicate..

What impact would winning have on the employee?

Certainly it will motivate our group to continue volunteering and give our untiring support without expecting anything in return to these children with special needs. Since we got involved and have offered some help for the children obsessed with fun, art/ drawing activities and games, these kids were able to intermingle and communicate and it is already a big reward for us volunteers seeing their pure and happy smiling faces.
