Main aim of the charity

The main aim of the charity that I volunteer for is to support individuals in the community who are struggling with issues. These issues can be physical or mental abuse, mental health related, suicidal thoughts and inclinations, etc.

How the employee got involved and why

At some point last year I felt there was something missing from my life. I started to volunteer again because I find it fulfilling and that it gives me a real sense of purpose. I volunteer at Spectra specifically because I thought I would be good at it, I spend my work day taking calls from customers, and I thought it was an activity worth doing, it gives me an outlet to help people who are really struggling.

What work does the employee do for charity?

I am a phone responder at Spectra. I take calls from people who are struggling with mental illness, having suicidal thoughts, or experiencing abuse. I offer them support, referrals, and resources. Some calls are very intense and require referrals and possibly even intervention. Others are lighter in nature and involve me just verbally supporting callers through their day to day issues.
