How the employee got involved and why
In 2013 I went to a workshop in Kenya and I could verify first-hand the reality that was lived there. From that moment something changed on me and grew the needed to do productive things for the disadvantaged population. I try to contribute my humble grain of sand for the right to education and the social justice. A long all this years my involvement has increase until to create a NGO with a group of people committed to equality, education and development. That is how ZAWADI was born.
What work does the employee do for charity?
I am a founding member of ZAWADI. Currently we are finishing our first project of construction of latrines in 7 school of the Kochia area in Kenya and we are raising funds to start a new one in St. Mary´s Viwadani Secondary School, located in Mukuru Slum in Nairobi. This new project will consist of the repair of two classrooms during the school holidays and fencing the school campound to be able to continue teaching, otherwise this classrooms will be closed by the goverment.
What impact would winning have on the charity?
ZAWADI is just starting and for us it would be very gratifying to be able to carry out this project that will reach out to more than 500 enrolled as direct beneficiaries at St Mary´s Viwandani Secondary School. The indirect beneficiaries will include the inmediate family members of the 210 students averaging at 5 members per household, translating to 1050 indirect beneficiaries.
This education center is the only hopes for the youth of th Mukuru Slum, who go through various challenges and problems in life.
What impact would winning have on the employee?
I would be very proud that DHL support me in the causes that I fight for and I believe. I would be very happy.
