China has a rapidly ageing population. As a young, healthy person, Yang Mingming had a strong desire to help them. She began volunteering at an old people’s nursing home when she was a student and is now actively involved in the Banshan National Nursing Home. She supports the staff there and regularly contacts the residents to keep their spirits up.

Because the winters are cold in Lanzhou, she also buys winter cotton clothes, bed sheets and hot water cups to make sure these elderly people stay warm. She believes that all young people have a responsibility to provide more care for the elderly
