Raquel’s 14-year-old son, Pablo, has a rare metabolic disease which means he can’t eat protein. To help Pablo and other affected families, Raquel volunteered at ASFEMA – the metabolic diseases association of Madrid. As their treasurer, her main job is to raise money for the charity.
The special foods required by metabolic disease sufferers are extremely expensive. So Raquel’s main mission is to help fund a food bank. Providing
much-needed help to the 120 families she works with. Although Raquel finds her work as an ASFEMA volunteer challenging, she describes it as “the greatest satisfaction in her life”.
