When Caritas was 12 years old, she lost her parents to HIV/AIDS. 1.6 million people have died of HIV/AIDS in Tanzania, leaving behind a generation of orphans. Caritas wanted to help these children. Six years ago, she set up Tankids with a group of friends. A home that accommodates children who are either HIV positive or orphaned by the disease, offering them education, food, medication and shelter.
Caritas is currently seeking funding so she can create a more secure future for these children. Tanzania is winning the battle against HIV/AIDS, but Caritas’ battle for the children left behind carries on.
