Main aim of the charity
Our focus is raising awareness to Indonesian people about animal suffering. AFJ itself has 5 big programs since it's founded: education, campaign, adoption, spay & neuter, and rescue.
How the employee got involved and why
One of the reasons why I join Animal Friends Jogja because my dogs were stolen and never came back. We know that dog meat traders kidnap family pets to be distributed to dog meat industry. More than 13,000 dogs are allegedly being slaughtered every month in Solo, my hometown, to meet local demand for the animal's meat. Unlike the farming of chickens or goats, the production of dog meat is clandestine and unregulated in Indonesia, meaning the animals killed for consumption are often stolen family pets which are slaughtered and butchered in unhygienic circumstances.
Other reasons why I volunteer for Animals Friends Jogja because animals have no safety net in society, no voices of their own, and very few rights under the law. I see a lot of animals live in very bad conditions, they're abandoned, not wanted without food and home, being slaughtered, and being exploited.
I believe that earth doesn't belong to human only. We have to live in balance in nature and respect other creatures. But the fact is no other creatures can get close to devastation humans can cause. Founders and all volunteers of Animal Friends Jogja have similar views on treating animals with respect and compassion they deserve, including the right to live free from unnecessary suffering and exploitation.
