How the employee got involved and why

I started my services with Ebenezer in 2018 as a part time student of a master degree of Expressive Arts Therapy in the University of Hong Kong. Ebenezer provided me valuable opportunities to practice what I learned from the classroom as an Expressive Arts Therapist-to-be when I was under training. After I graduated in 2019, I felt like it's a mission for me to serve this organization in a way to show my gratitude. More importantly, I found that there are not many resources being allocated in this population (visually impaired senior adults), and the awareness of expressive arts in the society is very limited. Thus, I took a small step forward to provide services to Ebenezer with my professionalism and hoping to extend my skills further and wider.

What work does the employee do for charity?

I am a registered Arts Therapist (Expressive) under the Australian, New Zealand and Asian Creative Arts Therapies Association (ANZACATA). I have been providing voluntary services to Ebenezer Care & Attention Home since 2018 when I was under training as a part-time student of a master degree of Expressive Arts Therapy in the University of Hong Kong (a 3-year course from 2016-19), and such services continue after I graduated in 2019. My clientele in Ebenezer is female senior adults with vision impairment, some of them are diagnosed with dementia, depression and/ or other diseases. In accordance with a research as I conducted under the course training, it is known that the visually impaired senior adults are facing tremendous psychological pressure driven from their physical changes due to aging and deteriorated visual ability, living environment changes as they have been relocated to elderly home because of the eye disease, loss of autonomy and adaptability issues. During the services, I conducted therapeutic work for individual clients as well as groups using arts (e.g. painting, music, dance and movement and etc) as media to help the clients to enhance their self awareness through creative arts work e.g. to express their emotions adequately, to be aware of their own needs. I prepared customized session plans for each client and group so as to cater for their own needs. Throughout the sessions, I also conducted assessment reviewing the clients' progress and also determining if any adjustment was required for the session plans.
