Main aim of the charity

I have been volunteering for the past 3 years in Lesvos. And my help from Sapain is organizing the collection campaigns, review and classify clothing and footwear. To get some money I make handmade cookies, we do talks, and clothing that is not needed, we sell them in second-hand markets to re-invest the profits in buying more necessary things that can not be donated, like sanitary pads, diapers, underwear,...

How the employee got involved and why

In September 2016, while I was driving to my workplace to BCN HUB, I was listening a radio program that gives voice to people asking for help. That's how I met Albert, who at that time started a campaign to collect winter clothing to be sent to Lesvos. His main concern was getting donations that would allow him to make the shipment done. I came immediately into the idea of giving him some support, starting a FOC collection among my colleagues to send the material. So is how I felt in love with the cause and became an important part of Smiles on the Way.

What work does the employee do for charity?

Being part of Smiles on the Way, the small NGO I collaborate with, our main task is organizing essential material collections (we even buy them, whenever possible) , to send them to Lesvos, the small Greek island where some thousands of refugees have been living in inhuman and unsafe conditions while waiting asylum from European authorities. In most cases they are forced to live this way for years.
