Blessing Bags for Wilmington
Main aim of the charity
To feed those who depend on the local food kitchen on Sundays, when the food kitchen is unavailable
How the employee got involved and why
Last summer, one of my friends saw people digging through the trash for food on her way to church one Sunday. With a little research, we realized that the local food kitchen does not provide meals on Sundays and so people were going hungry. The next Sunday, we were packing up "Blessing Bags" made up of gallon baggies with sandwiches, cookies, granola bars, fruit cups, toothbrushes and other toiletries, along with a $5 Wendy's gift card so that they would get more than just a meal, but things to last throughout the month.
What work does the employee do for charity
My friends get together each month to provide meals and toiletries for people in our little town. We pack a sandwich, treats and toiletries like hand warmers and lip balm in the winter, and sun screen and deodorant in the winter into what we call "Blessing Bags." I support this cause by buying items to put into the bags, as well as helping with the assembly of the bags and also the distribution of the bags.
