How the employee got involved and why
I began my journey as an advocate 11 years ago when I was a social work student in college. I have a passion for helping others and find it incredibly rewarding to be able to support someone in a time of intense crisis. During times of intense chaos and pain, I try to be a comfort to individuals.
What work does the employee do for charity
Every month I contribute time to a sexual assault crisis line. I hold a crisis phone in 24 hour shifts and answer any calls that come in. Calls can range from survivors calling just needing someone to lend an ear to the hospital calling requesting an advocate for someone who has been assaulted. In instances in which the hospital calls, I am responsible for attending to the survivor at the hospital and offering crisis intervention services associated with the agency. I am able to stay with the survivor (with their consent) during the law enforcement reporting process, medical examination process, collection of any evidence and for any additional support and resources that may be necessary to the survivor and/or the family at the time of crisis.
