Listen Up Music
Main aim of the charity
Listen Up Music's primary goal is 'change'. Not merely "awareness raising" but constructive, impactful and life-altering change.
Through our music-focused events and education, our vision is to empower every music industry professional to practice positive mental health. We run events and services that build community, facilitate storytelling and promote positive mental health.
Our values of People First, Community, Inclusion & Diversity, Empowerment and Integrity are central to the way Listen Up Music works.
How the employee got involved and why
I have been involved in the charity since 2017. At the time, I was going through bad anxiety in my own life and through the charities live events, was able to learn that there is no shame in talking about mental health and felt the confidence to seek help for myself.
With the gift of taking action the charity gave me, I have invested hundreds of hours into their events and workshops to help create a safe space for others going through mental health issues and providing people with the training and courage to take action and seek health.
I have had people tell me the work we do has saved their life before, and for me there is no greater why than that. One life saved is worth all the time invested.
What work does the employee do for charity
I am on the board of directors for a national mental health music charity 'Listen Up Music'.
I am involved in decision making at the charity, but more importantly run events to support musicians and workers and promote discussing mental health and taking action to help yourself and others.
In my several years involved as both a volunteer and (as of last year) a board member, I have held events which have collectively had hundreds in attendance and have had the absolute honour to be a part of helping people feel confident in discussing mental health and to get help. I truly believe the work we do saves lives.
