Main aim of the charity

WHY THE BREINAALD PROJECT? Many senior ladies are very fond of knitting, but they can no longer afford the wool. Knitting and crocheting have many benefits for seniors. It improves their self-esteem, reduces symptoms of stress, anxiety and depression, keeps their brain active, fights arthritis and so on. Many people have old balls of wool that are no longer used. Hence the Needle Project! We bring together role players, from the senior lady who loves to knit to the benefactor who has balls of wool to donate. The Knitting Needle Project started in 2020 to knit fidget sleeves for dementia and Alzheimer's patients. This project will definitely focus on similar projects in the future where the community takes responsibility to involve older people through the Breinaald project to knit or provide a necessary knitted article. In this way, a contribution is made to the structured stimulation of older persons. In the future, the Breinaald project will focus on projects where a community takes responsibility for its older persons, and leads to structured stimulation of older persons. Fiddling sleeve project Knit fiddling sleeves for an altzheimer / dementia patient or donate wool to the project. Feel free to send an e-mail to elderly@helpendehand.co.za THE HELPHOOR PROJECT The HelpHear project is an ongoing project to provide needy older people with hearing aids. Second-hand hearing aids are collected, serviced and cleaned to be re-fitted for the elderly CATARACT SURGERY There is a huge demand for cataract surgery for older people and the project aims to annually provide 40 needy older people with a free cataract removal, as has already been done in the past three years. A partnership is with dr. Allison, the head of Vision 2020 at the University of Pretoria closed. Dr. Allison's costs are only +- R5 000 per eye for the operation. This is a big saving as the normal costs per eye amount to more than R20 000. At the same time, the operation is used to train students from the university. WHAT IS SENIORS IN ACTION? Elderly Helping Hand is close to its heart and through various initiatives Helping Hand focuses on supporting, spoiling and honoring persons over 60 years of age. At the same time, Helping Hand also tries to teach the Afrikaner people to care for the elderly again so that everyone can take responsibility for the elderly in their lives. Solidarity Helping Hand sees it as our vocation to develop and support all our interest groups, therefore also our seniors, on a holistic level. We recently discovered the Senior Mind Moves program. It's a wonderful program that is focused on ensuring a quality life, even as you get older. This can be done by not going to "rest" when you retire, but by staying active and involved with your family and in your community. The Senior Mind Moves program was developed by dr. Compiled by Melodie de Jager, an educator, keynote speaker, Mind Dynamix profiler and development specialist. Dr. De Jager has done a lot of research on biomimicry in the field of neuroscience. Senior Mind Moves is one of five programs put together by the Mind Moves Institute. The project, Seniors-in-Action, aims to expose as many seniors as possible in our communities, across the country, to the movements of Senior Mind Moves. We want to empower seniors so that they can take responsibility for their lives in their old age and not depend on someone else for their happiness. Helping Hand Oasis Boksburg: Food parcels are packed weekly that can feed around 70 to 100 families. We meet on Tuesday afternoons and pack the bags together as a team. Senior mind moves are done monthly at homes for the elderly in Boksburg. Sanitary wares are delivered to schools. Razor outreach is done for teenage boys helping them learn to shave We regularly receive donations of care products which we then distribute to our elderly, and we also chat and hang out with them. They are also prayed for.
