Wings of Hope for Africa Foundation
Main aim of the charity
The mission of Wings of Hope for Africa is to relieve poverty by implementing self-sufficient projects which include: agriculture initiatives, providing basic tools for education, aiding with health care provisions and medical supplies to persons in need. We provide financial support to low-income families and single parents of school-age children in Calgary, Alberta. We strive to create equal opportunities and to see the poor uplifted from desperate poverty to joyful self-sufficiency.
The foundation is currently involved in projects, such as the Hope for Kids Canada Program, child sponsorship programs in Burundi, refugee supports, and the building of community gardens in Buterere and Kivumu to empower families.
How the employee got involved and why
Founded in September 2011, Wings of Hope for Africa was born out of compassion for both local and international in-need children. When I became a mother, I realized how painful it would be to see your children suffer due to food insecurity; when my son is sick, I start to think of those African mothers who do not have access to basic medications and medical supplies. I started Wings of Hope for Africa so I can be the voice of the voiceless and provide advocacy and hope to those that need it.
What work does the employee do for charity
I am the founder of The Wings of hope for Africa Foundation, which is dedicated to family welfare, empowering communities & developing self-sufficiency programs to end poverty in Burundi and Rwanda, East Africa, and in Calgary, Canada. As the founder, I am heavily involved in raising funds for the organization through such routes as social media fundraisers, charity casino events, and grant applications. In addition, I also reach out to my company, colleagues, and friends to provide support to our cause.
